Don Pitcairn
Select Riding:
Surrey-White Rock
Don Pitcairn has been a resident of the Semiahmoo peninsula for 8 years and with a thumb even greener than his politics, operates a thriving gardening business in this region.
Don is the founder and president of Surrey's United Naturists (SUN) which serves to preserve and protect Crescent Rock beach. With SUN, Don has brought media attention to many environmental and public safety concerns affecting residents of the Semiahmoo community.
This includes the risk of mudslides from the Ocean Park bluffs derailing BNSF freight trains carrying dangerous goods next to the shores of Boundary Bay. Don is campaigning to have this historically dangerous railway relocated inland with the high-speed rail planned for between Surrey and Seattle.
When Nav Canada put commercial jets over the peninsula, Mr. Pitcairn was on the front lines to have these planes re-routed from Surrey and White Rock. While these flights have now been moved, Don continues to work to reduce aviation noise pollution as a member of the Surrey Airspace Task Force.
Don Pitcairn was responsible for “The Beaver Dies Here” signs that ended Surrey City Hall's beaver cull program. He is currently working to stop Met-Van trash trains from shipping Lower Mainland garbage through White Rock, wants to torpedo plans to move oil tankers with aviation fuel into the Fraser River for use at YVR, to end any more clear-cutting of the 'hump', and to have unsafe utility poles removed from the North Bluff roadway.
Expect much more in the future from this inspiring Green Party candidate.
