Enbridge Pipeline - Alberta Tar Sands to Kitimat

The National Energy Board is hearing submissions on the Northern Gateway Pipeline that Enbridge has applied to build to transport bitumen from the Tar Sands to Kitimat where it would then be loaded on containers and shipped to China. Condensate from China would be shipped on a second pipeline in the reverse direction. In the summer of 2010, Enbridge had two pipeline failures in the US - both of which threatened watersheds. They are only two in a series of pipeline incidents with this company. The project would cross and threaten almost 1,000 rivers and streams and it would cross pristine wilderness areas. The project is opposed by the bulk of the First Nations through whose territories the pipeline would be built.

The Green Party of BC is opposed to this project. The pipeline means expansion of the Alberta Tar Sands which will contribute to accelerated climate change and it represents a threat to BC's wilderness and the way of life of our First Nations.
