Site C

Site C is the proposed third dam on the Peace River. It is opposed by the local First Nations from the Treaty 8 Nations and many of the local people of the Peace. The Green Party of BC opposes the building of Site C. We believe all of our new energy needs could be achieved through conservation. New energy needs to be generated by diversifying away from hydro into geothermal, solar, wind and tidal. The $10 billion Site C will cost could be better used in any of these energy forms.

The BC Green Party respects the rights of the First Nations to determine land and water use in their traditional territories.

Attached are the declaration forms the Treaty 8 Nations presented to leader Jane Sterk at the Legislature on September 19, 2010 as well as a series of resolutions in opposition to Site C from major First Nations organizations. The photo is the birch bark scroll presented to Jane Sterk and the Green Party by Tribal Chief Liz Logan at this event.
