Green Book 2013

Green Book 2013 is a living document which is updated periodically as new policy is adopted by the Green Party of BC. The document is current to April 16, 2013.

The Green Party is fiscally responsible, socially progressive, and environmentally conscious. We are committed to a competitive and green economy. Creating a green economy will create tens of thousands of new jobs. It is all about responsible, accountable and transparent government. Greens seek to avoid the shocks of boom and bust cycles. We will build a resilient economy—a prosperous economy for now and for the future. The Green Party cares about the vulnerable. We believe government should encourage hard work and independence. Government should unite people to create strong communities. We are committed to ending poverty by supporting those in need. We believe in working hard for a better future for British Columbians.

Hi Sarah Sarah,
The Green Parties of BC and Canada are separate organizations and each has developed their policy books through input from members. We share the same core principles but the platforms of each party have evolved through the work of the people involved in each organization. There is no central mastermind who crafts the platform document and disseminates it – it’s a living document, updated quarterly as members ratify new policies. Those policies come from submissions that are then tested against core principles and vetted by our Research and Policy committee. During the election period our Green Book is “frozen” so we can focus on the work of connecting with voters but you’re welcome to submit new ideas for us to address after the election. The page for that is: http://www.greenparty.bc.ca/suggest_policy

How related are the Federal and Provincial Green parties? Do they share the same platforms? I checked the Federal Party site and could find no “Green Book” there.

Nova Scotia has been producing some electricity from tides since 1984. It would be great to have some “green facts” on this site. Is there a Webmaster here?

Baby steps Sarah. First thing is to get the right people in power. That’s a pretty big cart full and it looks like a long road to get by those that currently hold sway.

How are we gonna reduce consumer plastics , get plastic particulate out of the ocean, keep genetically modified foodstuffs out, make organic food available to everyone, make sure we’re buying ethically produced electronics, clothing etc.

There are so many “green” issues but I can’t find any statements of direction on these issues on this Green Party site.

This is quite a well-developed platform, let’s hope more people see it!
