Huguette ALLEN worked at Nortel as a computer programmer then became a senior Marketing Operations Manager. She left Nortel in 1986 when her job required more traveling than she felt was good for her family life.

She joined John Abbott college, a community college, where she designed and ran full-time computer training programs and placed graduates in industry. Her endeavours brought the college $600,000 a year in revenues. In 1993, as her sons were finishing university, Huguette left the Montreal region to move to a 100-year-old farm on the Gaspe Coast where she and her partner Russ Collins, started a successful training business until their move to BC in 2002. While there, Huguette was appointed:
* Vice-president of regional environmental group EVP
* President of Regional Environmental Council for Gaspé and Magdalen Islands
* Private sector and regional school board representative on various environmental issues
* Environmental Representative on Board of Governors of Regional Economic Development Committee

Since moving to BC, Huguette developed the proposal for the Lumby Salmon Trails that obtained $340,000 federal funding and managed the project. She was spokesperson for the group that protected water throughout the North Okanagan by opposing the project that was to discharge effluent to Sugar lake. She has been vocal against regulations that prevent farmers from selling their production at the farm gate, and continues to act as consultant with local companies. Most recently Huguette ran as MP candidate for the Green Party of Canada and obtained 17.3% of the votes, 4 times the percentage obtained in 2006.
