Jodie was born and raised in Kamloops, BC. She attended Valleyview Secondary School from grade 8 through to grade 11, then moved to Victoria to graduate with honours at St. Michael's University School in 2003.

Although she was accepted into three universities (as required by St. Michael's graduation policy), Jodie decided to move to Vancouver in 2004. She wanted to become an advocate for drug policy reform, civil liberties and sustainability, and had the opportunity to learn from and work for activist and businessman Marc Emery.

In early 2005, Jodie started working as assistant editor of Vancouver-produced Cannabis Culture Magazine, then became the full-time editor by early 2006. She and Marc Emery had fallen in love, and got married in the summer of 2006. They both live in downtown Vancouver.

Jodie's passions in life include human rights, news, politics, civil liberties, the environment, and ending drug prohibition. Jodie has run in two provincial elections as a BC Marijuana Party candidate (2005 general election, and the 2008 by-election). She decided to join the BC Green Party and seek a BC Green nomination for the 2009 election because she was attracted to the 10 Green Principles.

Gang violence and crime, Olympic malfeasance and its impact on the community, and the fiscal mismanagement by the BC Liberals are important issues among voters this year. Jodie knows her messages of ending prohibition to end gang violence and living sustainably for a healthier and wealthier future will offer voters a clear and sharp alternative to the failed NDP (1996 to 2001) and Liberal (2001-2009) governance. If elected to the Legislature as a BC Green Party MLA, Jodie will be a loud, vocal critic of the status quo, and will help find solutions to the problems her constituents face today.
