BC Greens Emerge from AGM with Commitment to Build

Victoria, BC: The Green Party of BC emerged tonight from their Annual General Meeting, with a renewed commitment to work diligently to build party infrastructure, on the ground campaign teams, and policy toward electing Greens in 2013. With a full complement of members, the new provincial council is thirty strong.

“We are proud of our Green candidates and will continue to be the voice of common sense in every election,” said Green Party Leader, Jane Sterk. “We believe that the electorate has learned the sad lesson that strategic voting for the lesser of two evils has utterly failed. This election, fewer people voted for no change. Greens are determined to get into the legislature to influence policy-making for the better. We have faith that in 2013 voters will be ready to vote for the party that has the fortitude and the values to represent citizens.”

“The Green Party is at a critical juncture. This election we were better organized than ever before. We ran more professional candidates and we provided voters with the option to vote Green in all 85 ridings. We also spent less money for each vote we received than in any in other election.”

Emerging from a strategy “fish bowl” session members agreed that the party has matured to the point where they have the strength in numbers to work between elections in our communities to engage citizens, learn about their issues and build voter coalitions.

“For the next four years, Greens intend to expose “green-washing” by working in our communities to put forward the real Green policies to address the serious climate change-related challenges that we all face. The Green Party has the strongest environmental policies and we are committed to being the choice that offers cost-effective, workable solutions from now to the next election.”
