Françoise Raunet Green Party of BC candidate in Vancouver Point Grey
BC Greens will use the by-election to highlight the need for change
April 14, 2011, Victoria, BC –– Using its Accelerated Nomination Process, the Provincial Council of the Green Party of BC has nominated Françoise Raunet to run in the May 11, 2011 by-election in Vancouver Point Grey.
Françoise Raunet has more than 15 years experience in community outreach and social services. She spent five years working and living in Taiwan. Françoise works for the Vancouver School Board. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a master’s in International Studies. Francoise is married and the mother of a two-year old.
Françoise grew up in and still lives in the Vancouver-Point Grey riding. She attended Bayview, Queen Elizabeth, Lord Byng and University Hill schools. She is a life-long transit rider and someone who cares deeply about the legacy we’ll leave future generations. Françoise is committed to being for her constituents in Victoria.
“I firmly believe that the Green Party’s policies and vision, which are based on evidence and a realistic understanding of the problems we face, represent our best path to building healthy communities and a sustainable economy into the 22nd century,” says Vancouver Point Grey candidate Françoise Raunet.
“The health of our environment is the only thing that affects us all equally. So called “left-wing” and “right-wing” voters still need to breathe the same air and drink the same tap water. I joined the GPBC and I am proud to run for them because it is the only party that has a real plan to prevent further environmental degradation and move our economy away from an unsustainable dependence on oil, gas, and unnecessary consumption,” continues Raunet
“I am proud to have Françoise as our candidate,” says Jane Sterk, leader of the Green Party of BC. “She is exactly the kind of person British Columbians want as an MLA – educated, intelligent, committed, passionate about her community and willing to work on their behalf.
“I decided to work politically because I want a healthy future for my daughter. She will graduate from high school in 2027. If we continue down the current path, the future she will inherit will be bleak. I am not prepared to let that happen,” concludes Raunet.
